HSM-78 holds change of command
1/16/2018
by MC2 Tom Tonthat, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Public Affairs

PACIFIC OCEAN (NNS) -- Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78 held a change of command ceremony while flying in an MH-60R Sea Hawk operating near the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Jan. 15.
Cmdr. Eddie Park relieved Cmdr. Timothy C. Boheme and assumed command of the "Blue Hawks."
Boheme served as executive officer for HSM-78 before taking over as commanding officer. Under his leadership, HSM-78 completed a maiden operational deployment last year and prepared more than 300 Sailors to deploy again this January.
"It has been my honor to do my duty with a team that has accomplished so much," said Boheme.
Boheme thanked HSM-78 Sailors for their dedication and focus during an all-hands address on his last day as commanding officer.
"I'll miss being a part of a team that has a shared dedication to the mission but also taking care of each other," said Boheme. "I will miss the hard chargers and devoted talented professionals of this squadron. I will miss seeing every one of you continue to excel and grow but my part of this relay is run and as I pass the baton, I know that it is in good hands."
After assuming command, Park pledged to continue the legacy Boheme began.
"I pledge to serve you with honor," said Park. "I pledge to take into consideration every single Blue Hawk's needs as we execute this command's mission. I am proud to serve with you and carry on the legacy skipper Boheme has advanced so well."
HSM-78 is based on Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego and is the Navy's newest MH-60R Sea Hawk squadron. As the world's most advanced maritime helicopter, the MH-60R Sea Hawk's primary missions include anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Secondary missions include search and rescue, medical evacuation and vertical replenishment. HSM-78 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 2 and embarked aboard Carl Vinson.
